American Red Cross:

What: Receptionist/Greeter; Maintenance; Cleaning

Elite Repeat Resale Shop:

What: Process items

First United Methodist Church:

What: Prepare and serve community dinners

When: Thursdays, 2-7:30

Habitat for Humanity ReStore:

What: Receive and process donations; Recycling

When: Fridays 9-5, Saturdays 9-1

Highland Park Elementary:

What: Reading Buddy – read with a child

When: One day a week, M-F 11:30-12

Humane Society of Stillwater:

What: Walk dogs; Socialize cats

When: Flexible, Tues. Wed. & Fri. 2-6, Th. 2-7, Sat. & Sun. 1-5

Image Hospice:

What: Office work and direct care with patients-sit with them, read, play cards.

When: Flexible, M-F 8:30-5

Judith Karman Hospice:

What: Visit patients; Assist in resale shop; Office help; Fundraising

When: Flexible, M-F 9:30-4:30, and Saturdays

Legal Aid Services of Oklahoma:

What: Office assistance

When: Flexible, M-F 8:30-12 & 1-5

Life Adult Day Center:

What: Socialize with elderly

When: Flexible, M-F 7:30-5:30

Payne County CASA:

What: Be a court appointed advocate for an abused or neglected child; Fundraising

When: Various times, a one-year commitment to be a CASA, fundraising help also needed

Payne County Youth Services:

What: Administrative assistance; Perform activities and socialize with youth

When: Varies, Mon. Wed. & Fri. 8-5, Tues. & Thurs. 8-8

Sheerar Museum of Stillwater History:

What: Receptionist/Greeter; Educational programs; Shop assistance; Data entry; tours

When: Varies, T-F 11-5, Sat. & Sun. 1-4

St. Andrew’s Thrift Shop:

What: Serve a three hour shift to help customers at the sales desk; work the cash register

When: T,W,F 10-4, Th 10-6 (3 hour shifts; 10 am-1pm or 1pm-4pm one day a week)

Sterling House of Stillwater:

What: Accompany residents to doctor appointments; Shave male residents

When: Varies

Stillwater Community Health Center:

What: Volunteers with medical experience

When: Tues. & Thurs. 4-7

Stillwater Domestic Violence Services:

What: Assist with transportation for shelter clients

When: Varies

Stillwater Medical Center:

What: Take photos of babies for website; Install Lifelines

When: Flexible, M-F 8-5

Stillwater Mobile Meals:

What: Deliver hot meals to the elderly, convalescing or homebound

When: One or more days a week, M-F 11:30-12:30


The Saville Center:

What: Cleaning; Maintenance; Mail-outs; Holiday decorating; Prepare lunches

When: Flexible, M-F 9-5

Tiny Paws Kitten Rescue:

What: Bottle feed and socialize kittens; Clean cages

When: Flexible, Mon.-Sun. 7-7

Tornado Damage in Stillwater: Donations Needed

We have had 9 families in Stillwater with affected homes from last nights tornado that went thru on the south side of town.  We are in the process of damage assessment with these homes, and assessing the needs of these local families.  Fed Ex is still going to Joplin, I just met with them, but they are also taking supplies for the Oklahoma tornadoes of last night, and will be taking trucks to OKC Red Cross for distribution.  9 is the preliminary report at this time, and there may be other homes yet to be discovered.  At this time we are taking donations of recovery items for the local families here at our office on 8th.  Examples of items needed are:
  • Bleach
  • Work gloves
  • Batteries
  • Flashlights
  • Brooms
  • Buckets
  • Storage containers
  • Blankets
  • Rakes
  • Salvage Bags
  • Chap stick
  • Bug repellent
  • Sun screen
  • Hammers
  • Nails
  • Water/Gatorade
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Non perishable food
  • Meal vouchers
We also have a shelter open at the Red Cross office here on 8th street, for the victims of last nights storm.  The shelter will be open as long as needed. We are accepting donations for the Stillwater families at our office. Please pass the word.  Thanks. Vicki

United Way Fundraiser: HES Silent Auction & Bake Sale

YMCA Needs Volunteer For Policy Development

The Stillwater Family YMCA  is looking for a committed student to help develop personnel policies for the organization. To learn more and see about pitching in, talk to Dan Carman, YMCA Executive Director. You can reach him at 405-372-5833 or 204 S. Duck.

Penny Wars
When: September 22-October 14
Where: Front Desks in Wentz, Griffith Center, Village CASNR, Stout, Kerr-Drummond & KPF
Details: The fundraiser is a competition between the Residence Hall Governments. Pennies are worth 1 positive point each, and all other change are worth negative points. I.e. nickels are -5 points, dimes are -10 points, etc.

Pumpkin Carving Contest

Details: Bring pumpkins to the payroll office at 8 am. They will be in the hallway of Physical Plant Services Building at break times and in the Payroll office (110 PPS) at all other times. Anyone is free to enter and voting will be $.50/vote. Winner of the pumpkin carving contest will receive a prize. Winner will be announced/notified at 4 pm.

Costume Contest
When: 3 pm, Oct. 29
Where: Hallway of PPS Building 79
Details: Anyone can dress up and enter; $.50/ vote. Winner will be notified by 4 pm and will receive a price.

Ghost STATE Stories: Open Mic Campus Ghost Storytelling, Costume Contest, After-Hours Ghost Walk of the Edmon Low
When: Friday, October 29
Where: Begins in Browsing Room, Edmon Low Library
Details: Concession sales open at 9:30 pm. Doors close at 10:15 pm.

Monster Dash 5K Run/Walk & 1 Mile Fun Run
When: October 30, Registration at 9:30 am; 5K at 10 am; Fun Run 10:15 am

Open Houses in Stillwater This Week

The LIFE Adult Day Center is having Open House all week, 1:00 – 3:00. They are located at 411 E. Mathews (inside First Christian Church).

Also, Oxford House is having an Open House on Saturday, 9-25 at 3:00 at the women’s house at 4502 N. Davis Court

Celebration Stillwater is going on this week with mini camps Tuesday, Wednesday, & Thursday and the ‘Main Event’ on Saturday, 9-25, noon-6:00 at Coach Park.  If you are interested in helping contact Terry at Fenton’s.  They might still need some help.  Or, just come out and join in on the festivities.  Check out their web site at http://www.celebrationstillwater.org.
