Sponsored by the Fund for American Studies with courses accredited by Georgetown University, the 2012 Institute on Philanthropy and Voluntary Service is a summer academic internship program held in Washington, D.C. for undergraduate students interested in volunteerism and careers in the nonprofit sector.
The Institute combines substantive professional experience for 30 hours a week (for 8 weeks) with a challenging academic experience at Georgetown University.

Here is the problem we are tackling: K-12 schools in this country do not have enough resources to let children explore their potential and excel. Books, computers, art supplies, musical instruments, science equipment, sports equipment, and even paper for computers and printers are all in desperately short supply.
Our Approach: ClassWish.org, an exciting new nonprofit, uses modern business practices and the latest marketing techniques to help 125,000 schools serving 56 million kids, inform, inspire and engage supporters. ClassWish is a nonprofit, but we use the latest techniques from the business world to make a leveraged, scalable and financially-self sustaining difference in the lives of tens of millions of children.

Daniel Burnham, the great Chicago architect, said “Make no little plans; they have not the power to stir men’s souls.” (Nor women’s, we hasten to add). Little plans also do not have the power to provide a better education to 56 million kids who deserve more than they are getting today. We face a crushing need in schools, have a solid plan to address it, and with your help, we intend to grow this very large and very fast.
Where are you located?
We are in Manhattan, conveniently located right across from Madison Square Garden. We will also hire interns to work remotely from other cities.
What skills and experience are you looking for?
We seek a wide range of skills: graphic designers, videographers, writers, researchers, creative thinkers, analytical sorts, community organizers, social media stars, people with great communication skills, MBA students, and more.

Dear Colleagues:
While Summer Deadlines for IPSL Study Abroad and Service-Learning Programs are fast approaching, we are still accepting applications and there is still space in most of our programs.
If you have students who may be just deciding to experience an international study and volunteer program, have them check out the IPSL website at http://www.ipsl.org/programs/where-we-go for all our program details.
Our last deadlines are June 8th for Cusco, Peru and June 10th for Montpellier, France. Guayaquil, Quito, Kolkata, Valladolid and Chiang Mai have earlier deadlines.
There is an easy online application at http://www.ipsl.org/apply and best of all, most programs do not require a visa! Summer programs are an ideal way for students to “get their feet wet” in international study and volunteer service without a lengthy time commitment or huge expense. And, it is a great way to practice another language, augment your studies with interesting courses, and gain valuable work skills by volunteering in a non-profit abroad.

The Children and Youth AmeriCorps*VISTA Project of Northwestern Pennsylvania is pleased to announce its search for an AmeriCorps*VISTA Leader. The Children and Youth project is a collaborative effort of Allegheny College, Edinboro University, Gannon University, and Mercyhurst College, spanning both Crawford and Erie Counties, which are located in “the chimney” of Pennsylvania. The mission of the project is to reduce poverty for under-served children and youth by mobilizing college students as volunteers in partnering community organizations.
The VISTA Leader will be headquartered at the Nonprofit Partnership in Erie, PA, and will be responsible for supporting approximately 15 VISTA members serving at local non-profit organizations and school districts. The VISTA Leader will support professional development of the VISTA members, and help to guide them in generating resources for their programs. In addition, the VISTA Leader will help to strengthen and shape the project’s Advisory Boards, and will help to design outcomes to measure the project’s impact and effectiveness in reducing poverty for children and youth in Northwestern Pennsylvania.

Application: CARISA WINTERS ENDOWED SERVICE AWARD Application
The CARISA WINTERS ENDOWED SERVICE AWARD is an endowed scholarship with a value of $2,000 available to a sophomore or junior undergraduate student who has demonstrated, and plans to continue to demonstrate, a strong commitment to service, positively contributing to the student’s community. The award is designed to support a student with an interest in, and pursuit of, serving individuals, communities, and the nation.
The CARISA WINTERS ENDOWED SERVICE AWARD is given in memory of Carisa Winters, a former OSU student committed to serving others. This award is intended to serve as an assistantship to allow the recipient to pursue new service ideas; create ways of utilizing those ideas; create new structures for service and delivery; and/or target new audiences.
This award may actually fund the conceived project or support the student academically through payment of tuition, fees, books, room and board so that the student is freed up to further develop and implement the service project. The award will be given out on consecutive semesters awarding $1000 each of the two subsequent semesters fall, 2011 and spring, 2012 dependent upon satisfactory progress shown.
